The studio
Sudbourne Park Printmakers enjoy the benefits of supervised printmaking in the light, spacious and professionally equipped studios at Bothy Yard. Set in the beautiful, historic grounds of Sudbourne Park, the studio provides excellent facilities for several types of printmaking including relief printing and etching.
The unit at Bothy Yard has been the home of Sudbourne Park printmakers for more than 20 years. Established by the late master printmaker Gareth Jones in 1992, the group has evolved into a thriving, highly regarded co-operative of artists.
The studio is divided into three main areas – the etching room houses an impressive Kimber press (bed size 48”x 28”) and a Krause press (42”x 72”), as well as all the other equipment necessary to produce high quality etchings, aquatints and related print techniques.
Another room provides for relief printing and is equipped with two fabulous, antique Colombian presses, platen sizes 36”x23” and 21”x16”. In addition we were fortunate to have been donated a beautiful Albion press by the Artist Paul Evans, platen size 34”x26”. Each press has its own history and character that adds to the heritage feel of studio.
There is also a large, well lit area used for clean processes such as pressing prints, carving, cutting, planning and design. The studio is used as a gallery for our winter exhibitions, and houses the kitchenette and materials storage. There is always a stock of materials to hand including inks, proofing and editioning paper, copper and zinc with wood and lino for relief printing.
